Knowledge @ Noon webinar

Join us for the next Knowledge @ Noon webinar on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, from 12:00 to 13:00 on Zoom, featuring two perspectives on alternative career paths.

Michio Painter, Head of the UMZH Translational Medicine Accelerator, will share insights into the process of developing a start-up, from early ideas to building a viable business. What does it take to translate promising science into a successful venture, and which challenges can make or break a start-up?

Mohaned Shilaih, from FimmCyte, will explore what happens between a scientific breakthrough and a signed biotech deal. FimmCyte is developing a disease-modifying treatment for endometriosis, a condition affecting around 10% of women for which non-hormonal, non-surgical treatment options remain limited. His talk will offer a perspective on translating innovative research into therapeutic opportunities and partnerships.

The webinar is free and open for everyone, but registration is necessary! Register HERE by 24.11.2026!

Cardiovascular Research Meeting 2027

The Cardiovascular Research Meeting 2027, organised by the LS2 Section of Cardiovascular Biology, will take place on 13-14 January 2027 at the University of Bern. The annual meeting brings together more than 100 researchers working in cardiovascular and vascular biology, providing a platform for scientific exchange, discussion and networking within the Swiss research community.

The program features two keynote lectures by Grégoire Courtine (EPFL) and Jocelyne Bloch (CHUV), alongside speakers from Switzerland and Europe. The meeting will also highlight the work of young researchers: as in previous editions, selected submitted abstracts will be invited for short oral presentations, while other abstracts will be presented as posters. Two flash-presentation sessions will provide an additional opportunity for poster presenters to introduce their work in a single-slide format. Awards will be presented for the best oral and poster presentations.

The meeting will also include a conference dinner on 13 January, offering participants an opportunity to continue scientific discussions in a more informal setting and expand their professional networks.

Abstract submission deadline: 8 November 2026
Registration deadline: 13 December 2026

YSS

The Young Scientists’ Satellite (YSS) is a dedicated event for early-career researchers, taking place on 9 February 2027 alongside the LS2 Annual Meeting in Lausanne. This year’s programme puts career development and the realities of building a career in academia at the centre, featuring three inspiring keynote speakers who will share their personal and often non-linear journeys towards research independence.

A dedicated Career Q&A session will provide an opportunity to ask questions and discuss career choices, challenges and opportunities directly with the speakers. The afternoon will also feature scientific presentations and plenty of opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and build your network with fellow young scientists.

Join us for an inspiring afternoon of science, career insights and networking, and meet the researchers shaping the next generation of life sciences! Same deadlines apply as for the main Annual Meeting.

LS2 Annual Meeting 2027

Join us from February 09-11, 2027, at the University of Lausanne for the LS2 Annual Meeting 2027, bringing together researchers from across the Swiss life sciences community for three days of outstanding science, networking, and collaboration.

The meeting will feature internationally renowned keynote speakers, award lectures, the Young Scientists' Satellite (YSS), the PIs of Tomorrow session, industry exhibition, poster sessions, networking opportunities, and 12 scientific symposia covering topics from molecular and cellular biology to systems biology, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, cardiovascular biology, biophysics, proteomics, and emerging research technologies.

Researchers are invited to submit an abstract for consideration as a poster and/or oral presentation. All accepted abstracts are eligible for the poster sessions, with opportunities to compete for Best Poster, Best Poster Design, and YSS Best Talk prizes. Abstract submission deadline: November 15, 2026. Registration is required before abstract submission.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lausanne for three days of inspiring science and scientific exchange!

European Phagocyte Workshop 2027

The European Phagocyte Workshop 2027 will take place on 5-7 April 2027 at the Montreux Music & Convention Centre, bringing together researchers working across the diverse fields of phagocyte biology and innate immunity. The scientific programme will feature internationally renowned speakers and EMBO Keynote Lectures, selected short talks, poster presentations, and dedicated networking opportunities for early-career researchers.

Scientific sessions will cover a broad range of topics, including inflammation, host-pathogen interactions, vascular biology, cancer immunology, tissue homeostasis, and emerging therapeutic approaches targeting phagocyte function.

Researchers at all career stages are encouraged to participate by presenting their work and engaging with colleagues from across Europe and beyond. Registration is now open. To benefit from Early Bird fees, please apply by December 15, 2026. LS2 members benefit from a discounted registration rate!

We look forward to welcoming you to Montreux for an exciting meeting dedicated to the latest advances in phagocyte research!

The Patenting in Life Sciences & Chemistry workshop

On behalf of us and the Swiss Chemical Society, we would like to invite you to participate our two-day hands-on workshop for doctoral students and postdocs in life sciences & chemistry, taking place on 30 June & 1 July 2027, at Centre Loewenberg in Murten.

The course is sponsored by SCNAT and IGE IPE, with grants available for participants! Apply for an IGE IPE grant by 30 March 2027.

Whether you’re pursuing an academic career, moving into pharma or biotech, or considering a role in research support, understanding intellectual property (IP) and patents is becoming essential. Life sciences are driving technological innovation, creating new products, markets and career opportunities. But with innovation comes an important question: Who owns the ideas, and how can they be protected?

Join our two-day workshop and gain essential knowledge about how IP and patenting affect: Your research and career, Innovation and academic research, Spin-offs and entrepreneurship, Ethics and society, Career opportunities in IP management.

Through expert lectures, practical group sessions and hands-on activities, you’ll explore patent law, IP protection and the challenges of managing intellectual property in academic and commercial environments. Discover the world of intellectual property — and learn how to turn scientific innovation into impact. Meet our patenting experts HERE.
